چکیده
kIU/L; normal values 18 kIU/L) autoantibodies, and 2 were negative for all anti-phospholipid antibodies investigated by the ELISA method. Thus, the new SCT assay was positive in 87% of those who had a positive result by our LA test and was negative in 93% of those whose results were negative by our LA assay. All of these patients had histories of thromboembolic disease (4 with venous thrombosis and 2 with arterial thrombosis). These findings can suggest, at least in some patients, a role of SCT as an independent risk factor for thrombosis. Furthermore, the presence of SCT positivity in patients with thromboembolic events reduces, at least in part, the number of patients who are otherwise seronegative for anti-phospholipid autoantibodies. More data and prospective studies are needed to confirm this hypothesis.

Development and characterization of polyclonal antibody against human kappa light chain in rabbit
Polyclonal antibodies against kappa light chain are used to diagnose diseases producing free light chain. The kappa and lambda light chains are products of immunoglobulin synthesis and released into the circulation in minor amounts such as serum, cerebrospinal fluid, urine and synovial fluid in normal condition. The purpose of this study was the production and purification of polyclonal immunog...
متن کاملChallenges of measuring monoclonal proteins in serum.
The measurement of monoclonal protein (M-protein) is vital for stratifying risk and following individuals with a variety of monoclonal gammopathies. Direct measurement of the M-protein spike by electrophoresis and immunochemical measurements of specific isotypes or free light chains pairs has provided useful information about the quantity of M-protein. Nonetheless, both traditional electrophore...
متن کاملRadioimmunoassay of free light chains of immunoglobulins in urine.
We describe radioimmunoassays for kappa and lambda light chains of immunoglobulins in urine. The assays, which involve antisera to free light chains, were sufficiently sensitive to measure the light chains in unconcentrated urine from healthy subjects. The usefulness of the assays in clinical practice is illustrated by measurements of light chain excretion by patients, including serial studies ...
متن کاملFree immunoglobulin light chains in connective tissue diseases.
The basic immunoglobulin subunit consists of two heavy and two light chains held together by covalent disulphide bonds. In most cases of myeloma and Waldenstrom's disease there is an excess synthesis of light over heavy chains, resulting in Bence Jones proteinaemia and proteinuria. Furthermore, in some cases ("light chain disease"), there is absence of detectable heavy chain synthesis, and the ...
متن کاملNormal counterparts to Bence-Jones proteins: free L polypeptide chains of human gamma-globulin.
Bence-Jones proteins are commonly found in patients with multiple myeloma and have been defined classically' as abnormal urinary proteins that have characteristic thermosolubility properties. Structural studies2 have shown that BenceJones proteins are similar or identical to the light (L) polypeptide chains isolated from the myeloma globulin of the same patient. Taken in conjunction with the re...
